Myths #8 – You Can Go To Jail Over A Debt
Debtors’ Prisons left scene ages ago. Under almost all situations, you will not go to jail over a debt.
In fact, it is illegal for a debt collector to threaten you with being arrested for a debt.
There are a few exceptions.
- In some states, you can be arrested for certain types of debt, like child support.
- In some states, you can be arreseted for failing to appear in court for a debt collection related hearing.
